Interesting
pair of stampless covers from Richmond VA to Mount Airy VA. The
first
is 1845, with Richmond CDS, a nice Pittsylvania CH CDS, manuscript
"Fwd", and 18 3/4 rate marking. The second is to the same
individual,
but as postmaster in 1848. Red Richmond CDS with 5 in circle;
rate
marking crossed out and "free" substituted. Both have short
letter
content and horizonal file folds. Pittsylvania CH is a DPO;
1794-1876;
the CDS is $50.00 in the ASCC. Mount Airy is also a DPO.
An
interesting pair.
