Boston involute flag, Langford #3 (P-43, dial 2), October 3, 1896.  In use just 5 weeks, a bit light across the top of the stars and dial, but an uncommon involute flag.  Some tearing to backflap.

Gone postal?  M.O. Business penalty envelope, legal size, from Boston with 1898 flag cancel to Greenville, New Hampshire.  The Greenville PM struck the cover 8 times with his receiver -- and then for good measure 11 more times on the reverse!  A few wrinklikes and markings from what may have been rubber bands, but a most interesting item nonetheless.

April 1899, pair of 5 cent Trans-Mississippi (#288) pay double UPU rate from Worcester MA to Germany.  Left stamp is SE at left, Worcester flag cancel.  "We hold a vaster emire than has been" written on the back flap; also a German receiver and a New York Barry machine marking as a transit.

1898 Tacoma Washington involute flag cancel, full length and clear strike, on cover sent to Battle Ground Washington, then sent to Portland OR, only to be returned to sender.  Large pointing hand from Portland, plus Battleground CDS; 2 Vancouver WA markings on back along with a Portland receiver, a Battle Ground marking, and one other CDS.  A few pinholes, including one inside the CDS of the flag, but a great usage.

Nice example of the WWI military flag with number 705 on a cleaner-than-usual cover, with unit identified in the return address and "soldier's mail" endorsement, purple censor marking.  Uncommon and cleaner than usual.

Scarce WWI military flag used at St. Nazaire, France, with no numeral in the diespace; used only in July and August 1918.  Ordinary low quality envelope with military address and censor addressed to Holliston MA; flag is a bit run off at upper right.  Knights of Columbus letterhead with soldier's letter enclosed.  Scarce WWI flag; Langford's 1976 Flag Cancel Encyclopedia lists at $20.00.
