Humphreyville CT (New Haven
Cty., 1812-1855, Helbock rarity 5), stampless from 1851, mailed to
London via Southampton, then apparently remailed via French mails to
BEIRUT SYRIA, with Calais marking. Second London marking on
reverse but no indication of arrival at Beirut. paid 24 cents at
upper left covered postage to England; endorsement at upper right is a
name and address to which the letter was sent care of. He
apparently remailed to the original addressee, and added the via
Marseilles and French Packet endorsement; 13 decimes postage due on
receipt. Contents are a personal letter between sisters.
Some staining but a beautiful, rare usage. Good luck finding
another one!
